“ It had been years since I had moved away from the area where I was able to eat at China Chef. It had always had great food and was a hidden gem on the Southside. Fast forward to 2-1-25, the restaurant is under new ownership from when I was there previously. At the moment, you can dine-in but take-out is available. We were greeted at the window by the owners son. He was super nice and pleasant to speak with. I told him how long it had been since I ate there and told him it was always a great place to eat. I learned a brief history of the new ownership and was handed a menu to order from. We ordered some egg rolls, some crab ragoons, pork fried rice, beef low mein, plus sweet and sour chicken. The wait was less than 10 minutes. As we drove home, we could smell the food. It smelled good, but did it taste good??? YES! It was all fabulous! Everything was spot on! We dove in and didn't even think to take photos of the dishes to post (next time for sure)! I called the resturant to give some feedback. I was able to talk to the owner and passed on how delicious the food was and how nice his son was at the windows. Sooooooo..... 5 STARS! This is by far the best Chinese food in Des Moines proper and the surrounding area!!! We will definitely go back and make this restaurant our only place we go for Chinese food! It is that good people!!!! You will not be disappointed ! Thank you China Chef for the great culinary experience!! My taste buds thank you too ! I recommend all the dishes I listed above! ”

“ Called ahead for pick up and was told 15 minutes which ended up being spot on. Egg drop soup is always good, orange chicken and sweet and sour chicken are our go to's, cashier at the pickup window was fast and friendly. Wish they'd open the dining room again but still good food! ”
